Yarn. Pedicure. Glasses. Swingers. Drums.
I thought I hadn’t done much this week but actually, what counts as “productive” anyway?
I nearly didn’t write my blog this week. I sat with my kombucha(I know! Check me -lol) thinking, I’ve not really done anything this week. I’ve had a chilled week, it’s been a bit nothingy. A bit floaty and I’ve gone with the flow. There’s been no big launches, no dramatic announcements, no shiny new website reveal…
And then I started listing it out how I had spent my time over the past seven days.
I’ve continued creating with freestyle crochet in front of the telly. I’m properly loving it. No pattern or rules. Just big bags full of different yarn, texture, colour and following my instinct. Making it up as I go along and trusting that it will become something. Or not. And that’s fine too.
I’ve made a conscious effort to spend less time in my office chair. The essential admin and a meeting with my accountant was done. I’ve paid invoices, replied to messages etc. But anything techy beyond that, absolutely not. The Simplero archived, 40+ notebooks, 500+ videos, tens of thousands of emails. All gone. The big burn and delete is done and I need a break from all of that. For my website, I’ve got a holding page up with the basics on it and, if I’m honest, I can’t be bothered to do anything more than that right now.
I’ve applied for Sherwood Art Week to launch my Funky Diva artwork into the local community. One application to display my artwork in a shop window. Another for a stall to sell my Funky Diva paintings. I pressed submit and didn’t overthink it. They’ll either be accepted or they won’t.
I rested after the busyness of Swish. Proper rest, not “rest while checking emails” rest – although, as an active relaxer you know that’s when I was crocheting.
On Tuesday I spent a day with one of my VIP clients, shopping her wardrobe. Thirty plus outfit combinations from what she already owned. It was nice watching her face change as she saw her clothes differently.
I had a long overdue pedicure. Smooth feet and freshly painted toes. Gel in bright pink, in case you’re interested. Ready for a few days in the Tenerife at the end of the month.
On Valentine’s Day I picked up my new glasses. I’ve treated myself, it’s the most I’ve ever paid for my specs. They’re a luxury brand with a bit of bling. A proper investment. But I wear varifocal glasses all day every day. So I figured why shouldn’t I invest? They’re super statementy, I’m channelling Iris Apfel in the best possible way. They’re oversized, bold and slightly outrageous. I bloody love them.
We went for a drink and food afterwards, then on to a burlesque cabaret show. Bumped into a couple we met there last year and ended up having a great night with them. Paul won some chips on the raffle, played blackjack and cashed out at £85, which felt very satisfying and paid a bit towards the night out.
Totally randomly, we all got chatting to two other couples who turned out to be swingers – not sure how that cropped in the conversation to be honest. But they were great company. Very open and relaxed. There was no awkwardness (perhaps because we were all a bit tipsy). But it was fun, and interesting conversation. Thankfully they didn’t try to ‘recruit’ as I’d have had to politely decline.
Then on Sunday I went to an event at our local community centre with a friend. We made empowerment dolls out of bamboo spoons and took part in a djembe drumming circle. I loved both. I adore drumming -sitting in a circle with strangers and feeling connected. I’m not very good though.
One of my friends reached out after reading last week’s blog on Facebook because it resonated. So we’re meeting for coffee this week.
And to top all of that I’ve been gifted a pair of old DMs from the local recycle group. I’m going to do my shiny shoes technique on them so I can sort out running a workshop.
When I write it all down like that, it doesn’t sound like “not much,” does it? Then I thought – is it not much… or actually everything?
What I’ve actually been doing is recalibrating. You can’t delete years of work, close platforms, strip everything back to a holding page and expect to bounce straight into shiny productivity mode. My nervous system needs to land. That’s what this week has felt like, it is what alignment looks like (in real life)
Less office chair, more yarn in my hands, real-life conversations. More embodied experience and less browser tabs.
The freestyle crochet feels symbolic. No templates, funnels or a carefully structured content calendar. Just following what feels alive in the moment. Trusting that shape will emerge through doing, not through overplanning.
And then my glasses. They are such a metaphor for where I’m at. I could have chosen something sensible. But instead I chose statement and visible. I chose something that makes me feel more me.
Because that’s the Funky Diva work - alignment.
Discernment + Identity + Vibe = Alignment.
The burlesque night was the same. Playful, a little bit outrageous. Adults having fun and no one apologising for it.
And the fact that my week included both a luxury eyewear purchase and a bamboo spoon empowerment doll at the community centre…
There’s an old version of me measuring success that would look at this week and say, “Yes, but what did you achieve?”
·No new sales page
·No webinar
·No tech build
·No big marketing push.
But here’s what I did achieve:
·I rested
·I invested
·I connected
·I created
·I experimented
·I supported a client into seeing herself differently
·I moved my body
·I played
·I said yes to visibility in small, personal ways
That’s not nothing. If you’re reading this and are someone who feels guilty if you’re not constantly “on,” this is your reminder.
Productivity isn’t just output, it’s alignment. Sometimes the most powerful weeks are the ones where you quietly choose joy over obligation.
·Where you spend money on glasses you’ll wear every day because you’re worth seeing clearly and being seen clearly.
·Where you sit in a drumming circle and remember you have a pulse.
·Where you take time after a big project to breathe instead of immediately launching the next thing.
·Where you admit you can’t be bothered with tech and, instead of shaming yourself, you listen to that.
This is what business built around Funky Diva energy looks like in real life. It’s not bro marketing, hustle or chasing “six figure months.” It’s choosing creativity, embodiment, visibility that feels like you. Choosing to build slowly, in a way your nervous system can handle.
And underneath it all, it’s noticing when you tell yourself you’ve “not done much.” Because look again. Look at the richness, the colour, the conversations. Look at the courage in applying for art week, the visibility in wearing the big glasses because they’re fun. There’s a quiet power in this kind of week. No fireworks or fanfare, just steady, intentional living.
So maybe that’s my new measure…
Not “How much did I produce?”
But “How aligned did I feel?”
And if I use that yardstick, this week scores pretty highly. Maybe yours will too, if you stop dismissing it. So before you write off your last seven days as “nothing special,” try listing stuff out. You might surprise yourself. I certainly did.
